Giacomo the Jester was born
on September 6, 1556 in Milano, Italy. He is the son of Zampano,
jester to the duke Orsino and of Gelsomina, a peasant woman from the
surrounding area. He grew up learning the trades of both his
parents. He apprenticed for many years with his father learning the
arts of sorcery, juggling, ropewalking and storytelling. From his
father he acquired his resourcefulness and a quick wit. From his
mother he inherited his intuitive nature and warmth, as well as the
skills of making both quilts and
soap.
From her he derived his love of music and song.
Giacomo was banished from
the Duke's court in 1575 following a scandal that involved the Duke's
daughter and he has since been traveling the world performing music,
magic and merriment in the capitals of Europe and the Orient.
In his act Giacomo tells of
his early life life surrounded by the wealth of the Duke's castle and
of his many adventures since his hasty departure. His tales are
flavored with the performance of Renaissance and Celtic music,
juggling, magic, ropewalking. He has delighted audiences all over the
world and has acquired the gift of speaking in several tongues, which
enables him to perform in seven languages.
But his travels are far from
over...
Maybe one day, you too will
see him balancing a 10 foot horn upon his lips and play a tune. Or see
him stand atop a rope held by his audience and juggle flaming
torches. Or hear a love song and swoon. Maybe one day.
